In 2003 Singer/Songwriter Krizz
Kowski
heard of the talented graphic artist / musician
Alex Labes. Collaborating on a cover design for
Kowksi’s band, Sunny Sixkiller, the two immediately
discovered they have a similiar mindset about music
and almost instantly decided to produce a song together.
”Heart of Man“,
the result of a one night session, convinced Porcupine
Tree Mastermind Steven Wilson to offer a helping
hand on the project. Suddenly they realized they
had the beginnings of a promising band.
Based on a Frankie
goes to Hollywood
song, the two decided to call the band ”Lunar
Bay“. Impressed by Frankie’s revolutionary
concept – its diversity, corporate identity
and production, the band felt this particular song
title expressed their ambition to become a skyrocketing
act and was also evocative of a distant view of
Earth, main theme of Kowski’s lyrics.
Immediately after
listening to one of the band's first demos, Gunnar
Spies – drummer of German top 10 group Mia
– joined the promising act.
In early 2004 DJ Martin
Pallgen of popular Radio Eins got crazy about the
track ”Audience“ and played it regularly
on his show. |

After hearing it there, club DJ
and producer
Arno Henning contacted the band. He remixed the
intense ballad ”Audience“ and the straight-
forward rocker ”King Midas“. Lunar Bay
then decided to record a track called ”Sweetness“
together with Henning’s electronic act Mighty
Fruitz, which was released on Carepack records at
the end of August 2005.
In April of 2005 Archive
Singer Craig Walker (who has been quoted as saying:
”It’s the best new music I have heard
for a very long time“) invited the band to
London to discuss its latest material and a future
collaboration.
With a bunch of great
songs, the band
headed back to their home studio to work on pre-production
for their ”Planet Whore“ EP. Around
this time guitarist Gernot Pohle and the keyboarder
”Else“ Ehlers joined the band.
The release of ”Planet
Whore“ on the bands ”Panacea“
label completes the first chapter...
